A Cause for Celebration; Motsepe Foundation Hosts its Inaugural Bursary Alumni Ceremony

Sandton, Johannesburg, 28 July 2017 – Today, the Motsepe Foundation held its inaugural alumni ceremony in honour of the recipients of its bursary programme, who have recently completed their tertiary studies at some of the country’s top universities.

The ceremony took place at The Forum Di Data Campus, in Bryanston, between 10h00 and 13h00, where students and graduates from provinces across the country gathered.

As the second set of students to have graduated through the Motsepe Foundation’s bursary programme, CEO and Co-Founder, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe was pleased to welcome them to the inaugural ceremony.

” We are very proud to have a group that has achieved so much, and you must acknowledge what you have achieved through your hard work and determination,” said Dr Moloi-Motsepe, to the graduates.

The alumni ceremony was also an opportunity for the Motsepe Foundation to officially launch its Alumni Forum; a platform through which the Foundation aims to better understand the needs of its graduates and thus improve and remodel it’s current bursary programme.

Program director and motivational speaker, Buyani Zwane , carried the ceremony with a moving talk by challenging the graduates to think about the lasting impact they would bring to their communities, as they transition from university into their careers.

“Those who make history, are the ones who dream,” he said.

As part of its commitment to uplift communities across South Africa, the Motsepe Foundation has committed over 1500 bursaries, over the past 3 years, to students who wish to further their studies at universities throughout South Africa.

This year, out of the 90 students who attended the ceremony, 67 were honoured with an alumni certificate presented to them by Dr Moloi-Motsepe. The remaining students are currently completing their studies under the Foundation’s bursary programme.

The Foundation believes in making a sustainable difference through education, with a particular focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
