COMPLAINTS OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES AT THE GLOBAL CITIZEN – MANDELA 100 FESTIVAL

3 December 2018

We have become aware of complaints by some festival guests at the Global Citizen – Mandela 100 concert of certain criminal activities.

The Motsepe Foundation is deeply saddened and expresses its empathy to those festival guests who may have been the victims of these criminal activities.

The safety of guests at any event that we are associated with, is of paramount importance and any criminal activity should be reported to the police as soon as possible so that appropriate action can be taken.

We are aware of the extensive security and safety measures that were put in place by Global Citizen and the police, inside and outside the stadium. However, as South Africans we have to learn from these experiences to ensure that additional security measures are put in place outside the stadium so that guests are not subjected to criminal activities when major events take place.

South Africa has to maintain its reputation as a good and attractive destination for hosting global events such as the Global Citizen – Mandela 100 festival. The cooperation of all stakeholders in this regard is important.
