Our role

To promote unity, inclusion, and collaboration within communities by sponsoring initiatives that bring people together and celebrate diversity; strengthening and supporting the work of civil society organisations that enhance collective action; and engaging communities affected by social divisions through emergency provisions of services as well as platforms for dialogue and reconciliation.

  • Persistent poverty, unemployment, and lack of economic mobility contribute to social exclusion and marginalisation, undermining efforts to foster cohesion and solidarity.

  • Shared experiences of music and cultural performances create common ground for connection and empathy, bridging divides and building relationships among diverse groups, while also fostering a sense of pride and belonging.

  • Religious teachings promote compassion, kindness, generosity, and forgiveness, fostering a culture of mutual respect, empathy, and social responsibility within religious communities.

National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an observance held in many countries around the world to encourage people of all faiths to come together in prayer for their nation, its leaders, and its people. It serves as an opportunity for people to come together in solidarity and reflection, regardless of their religious beliefs.

Christmas with our People

In two parts, the Christmas with our People initiative aims to spread the spirit of love, and create an atmosphere of joy, compassion, and unity during the festive season. The distribution of toys across the country is a heartwarming initiative that brings smiles to children who may not otherwise receive gifts during the holidays. Gift giving creates positive memories of joy and thoughtfulness amongst children, while the gifts aim to encourage their imagination. The concerts, also organised across the country, are free to attend and bring people together in shared spaces to enjoy live music performances. By combining entertainment with education, these concerts raise awareness about pressing global challenges and inspire attendees to take action for positive change.

The Motsepe Foundation is the proud sponsor of the Metro FM Music Awards (MMA) and the South African Music Awards (SAMA).
